Swimming upstream...and getting tired.

Our new president's popularity is soaring right now, and as someone who works within the federal government I'm noticing some blatant examples of favoritism.

First, I received an email earlier this month highlighting a special being run in the NIEHS cafeteria on inauguration day: President Obama's favorite foods. Maybe innocent enough, but everyone that I have talked to who has been here through several other administrations never remembers such cafeteria specials for previous presidents.

Second, the on-site daycare (run by the EPA) where we have our sons now has a 11 x 14 framed picture of Barry in the main lobby. We have had at least one child there for the last year and a half, and I can tell you for certain that I never saw any picture of W anywhere on the premises. [Note: Barry was wearing a shiny American flag pin on his lapel for this picture, unlike during most of his presidential campain]

I supposed if challenged, the initators of the new lobby picture and the cafeteria special could say, 'well we just started this policy, its not favoratism', but I think most rationally thinking people would see through that. There's nothing wrong with this kind of favoritism in the private sector, but in the federal government everything is supposed to even keel, at least that was my impression. I think there is such an overwhelming majority that likes the picture and the menu specials, that there's really nothing thta will be done if I complain. The EPA is run by.....President Obama. The NIH is within the Dept. of Health and Human Services, which is run by Sec. Daschle who was appointed by President Obama. Like I said, swimming upstream.

So there's not much for me to do other than grumble and be a disgruntled conservative really. The Dems won BIG in 2008, so they deserve their chance to make all the 'change' they see fit. At least I can get "Obama's Favorite Food to Eat Out: Grilled Steak Tacos with Caramelized Onions at the entree line" for a special price.
